Windtree Press allows for many varieties of short stories in terms of length. To understand the parameters for a short story, these are the common word counts most publishers cite.
- Short Story: Under 7,500 words (often starting above 1,000 words).
- Novelette: 7,500 to 17,500 words.
- Novella: 17,500 to 40,000 words.
Windtree Press anthologies accept both Short Stories and Novelettes. Authors who write Novellas tend to publish those as regular books. In addition, after an agreed period of time, authors who contributed to a Windtree Press anthology may choose to sell and market their contribution as a separate work. This means you may find a story, that is in last year’s anthology, also available for sale as a stand-alone book or ebook. Many authors also choose to use their short stories or novelettes as free giveaways for their fans.
