The Young Adult (YA) genre at Windtree Press is defined as those books that are written with a protagonist between the ages of 14 and 18. Some publishers call this “teen literature.” The stories are invariably coming-of-age stories, recognizing that young adults are beings in evolution, in search of self and identity. It recognizes that young adulthood is a unique part of life whether that story takes place in current day, in history, on earth or other planets, or in fantasy worlds.
Though YA literature is marketed to teens, we know that 58% of YA readers are actually adults over the age of 30. This is not surprising, as the search for identity and purpose seems to be a life-long one and readers of all ages find that YA literature presents this important journey magnificently.
